As a Student Development faculty member, the Residential Village Hall Director facilitates the development of an environment in the residence hall that encourages growth and development in the lives of students through whole person discipleship.

The Residential Village is a group of 7 townhomes located on the south end of campus. The structures are built with four three-story apartments in each that house 8-10 students with a total capacity of 200-256 students. 5 of the townhomes were completed for Fall 2024 and 2 were added for Fall 2025. The Residential Village has 7 PAs who help cultivate the community among mostly upperclassmen students.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Coordinates whole student educational, spiritual, and social programming for the Residential Village (7 townhomes with capacity of 200-256 students).
  • Assist the Housing Coordinator with student placements.
  • Directs all administrative functions for the Residential Village. This includes student conduct, building operations activities, budgets, maintenance, on-duty responsibilities, and emergency operations.
  • Offers support for residents in personal development and conflict, intervenes in crisis situations, and maintains current files of counsel, discipline, and informal advising sessions.
  • Supervises student staff of PAs (Personnel Assistants) as well as is responsible for the election and training of Graduate Assistants, Discipleship Coordinators, Personnel Assistants, and Discipleship Assistants.
  • Remains available and visible to students on a regular basis. The hall director will serve as a liaison between students and other administrators. This includes working to be acquainted with all students, developing rapport with students, participating at hall and campus events.
  • Submits weekly, semester, and annual reports to the Director of Residence Life.
  • Communicates as often as necessary to keep the Director of Residence Life informed regarding problems, trends, and issues within the hall.
  • Participate in weekly department meetings.

  • Contributes to the university’s faculty governance by participating in regular faculty meetings and committee assignments.
  • Hall Directors will continue their professional development through participation in conferences, article writing, and professional presentations. As members of the faculty the residence hall director will also participate in the faculty promotion process.
  • Participates in the development, growth, and encouragement of Graduate Assistants working with Residence Life. Assists in training Graduate Assistants, as needed, in planning and operation of Residence Life experience.
  • The responsibilities of this position require the person in the position to be reached for basic support services, and thus this position will require a cell phone.
  • Serves on the On-Call rotation to be the first point of contact for the PAs on Duty and administrators from Welcome Weekend to Commencement, except during vacations when residence halls are closed.
  • Remains on campus to close the Residential Village for each vacation period and returns to campus at least 18 hours before the halls officially open after vacation periods.
  • Remains on campus during Homecoming and Parents' Weekend, the first and last weekend of each semester and other weekends as noted on weekend On-Call schedule.
  • Driving University/Van Certification.
  • Lift 20 lbs and use stairs when necessary.
  • On campus housing and meal plan included for employee (and family if applicable).
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Taylor’s policies and applicable laws.

    Responsibilities include:

    interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
  • Qualified candidates should hold a master’s degree in student development, counseling, higher education, or a related field.
  • Qualified candidates will demonstrate a committed Christian faith and have experience mentoring and discipling college age students. Candidates should possess a commitment to relational ministry that includes both challenge and support.
  • Previous Residence Life experience is preferred but not required.
