Role and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Principal, the PSOE Spanish Teacher is responsible for direct instruction through curriculum implementation, lesson planning, data disaggregation, and classroom management. Additional responsibilities include maintaining compliance with individual student Education Plans, Section 504 Plans, etc. They will insure operational and functional knowledge of best practices in education, state and federal education law, FERPA and FAPE law, parent relations, behavioral management, documenting and reporting, and process-driven accountability.
Curriculum- Introduce and strengthen world language comprehension with supporting materials in native language and/or English to develop a high level of proficiency in a second language
- Encourage students to develop oral and literacy language skills appropriate to age and abilities by consistent modeling
- Demonstrate positive attitudes toward Spanish and English-speaking cultures (among others) and those who speak alternative languages (not to exclude English)
- Use a range of teaching strategies and instructional practices
- Participate in curriculum development
- Be knowledgeable in the core processes, skills, and content of all Core Knowledge curriculum areas, as expressed in the general job descriptions for all grade level teachers (This may mean that world language teachers also teach reading or other classes.)
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate the needs of the student populations represented in each classroom, including ELL, special education, and gifted
- Use a range of teaching strategies and instructional practices
- Use the computer and other multimedia tools in the classroom
- Provide a strong oral model of the second language
- Teach multi-grade and single-grade classes of students the three main components of the world language curriculum: second-language fluency, reading and writing literacy in the second language, and knowledge of its cultures, history, and people
- Establish, nurture, and, manage student-directed classrooms in which students are working together, conversing, using materials, and participating in exploration centers
- Use cooperative-learning strategies for both instruction and classroom management
- Develop and use rubrics for instruction as well as assessment
- Use technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication
- Be eager to learn new uses and applications of technology tools
- Provides direct instruction in whole-class, small group, and individual settings.
- Utilizes data-driven instruction and PSOE educational frameworks to insure delivery of standard’s driven instruction to all students.
- Completes assessments, grading, planning, and conferences with students, staff, and families within appropriate timelines.
- Utilizes oversight by team lead, Elite Teachers, Special Education Director, school counselor, and other subcontracted professional staff/outside agencies as needed to identify and understand strategies for support and instruction of students with exceptional needs.
- Ensures appropriate classroom implementation of BIP’s, FBA’s, IEP’s and 504 programs.
- Completes any additional reporting as requested by Special Education Director or counselor.
- Develops and maintains regular family communication and community partnerships.
- Completes reports and follow-up documentation as required by administration.
- Keeps updated and documented cumulative folders as ongoing case files for all current students.
- Contributes to a strong school education team: serves on school and/or community committees; seeks participation and involvement with direction for ongoing local operations.
- Acts as a professional advisor to the team lead/elite teacher on all aspects of school classroom activities.
