Responsibilities- Monitors the activities and behavior of children during the absence of the classroom teacher(s) to ensure safekeeping and adherence to conduct controls.
- Assists the teacher(s) in supervising learning activities and providing support to students.
- Provides instruction as prescribed by the supervising teacher(s) and reinforces skills introduced; may use games, stories, or other activities to enhance learning.
- Assists teachers in checking and objectively evaluating students’ work and skills; instructs students individually and in small groups.
- Assists in managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order; may provide input in developing classroom activities and learning tools.
- Cooperates in preparation of lesson plans and classroom activities.
- Observes students’ language, math, and communication skills; monitors progress and documents learning activities and diagnosis.
- Prepares or assists in preparation of instructional materials; performs support tasks such as photocopying, laminating, typing correspondence, and filing paperwork.
- Coordinates with media center staff for classroom learning resources; sets up equipment for teachers.
- Assists in preparing classroom bulletin boards, decorations, displays of student work.
- Prepares drafts of reports and completes forms, schedules, and other data as directed.
- Assists with student bus assignments for boarding.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of student information that may require computer entry of scores and data.
- Assists with monitoring duties (hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, bus duty) and escorts students to activity areas.
- Provides assistance in labs and instructions to students; explains lesson plans for better understanding.
- Stays up to date on current technology appropriate to the job and maintains timely and accurate information.
- Performs related duties as directed.
- Associate’s degree or higher, or at least sixty semester hours from an accredited institution; or pass the Para Pro test.
- Previous vocational training and/or work experience with school-age children is preferred.
- Must meet requirements of a paraprofessional as outlined in ESSA; pass Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check.
- Ability to perform essential functions, meet performance aptitudes, and fulfill physical, sensory, and environmental requirements with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Data Utilization, Human Interaction, Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization, Verbal Aptitude, Mathematical Aptitude, Functional Reasoning, Situational Reasoning.
Tasks involve moderate physical effort (standing, walking, light lifting up to 20 lbs) and visual, hearing, and oral communication requirements.
BenefitsHourly employee, paid on the “Instructional Assistants” salary schedule; eligible for benefits on the “Support Staff” benefits schedule.
SalaryStarting hourly rate $16.05.
Work SchedulesWork days: 180 days; standard hours per day: 7 hours (not including a 30‑minute unpaid meal break); work year: scheduled on school days per school calendar.
ReportingReports to one or more teachers and the building principal.
