Position PurposeCollaborate with school professionals, families, and students to promote and maintain a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for all students and support identified students one‑on‑one, in the classroom, for behavior and academic reasons.
Essential Job Functions- Work with teachers and administration in carrying out the philosophy of discipline within the school.
- Teach social skills lessons.
- Serve as a member of the school discipline team.
- Help promote school‑wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative.
- Effectively communicate with staff, families, and students.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with school professionals, students, and families.
Use standard office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, and telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Pay Rates$35.18 per hour.
Work Schedule8 hours per day; 183 days per year.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.
- Understand positive behavior strategies and reinforcement.
- Work with diverse student populations.
- Gather information quickly and identify problems and goals.
- Communicate effectively using a variety of media.
- Collaborate as part of a team.
- Be organized, maintain records, manage time and resources efficiently.
Physical demands:
Seldom – Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
Occasional – Ability to lift 25 pounds;
Seldom – Ability to carry 25 pounds;
Seldom – Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings;
Very Frequent – Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter;
Very Frequent – Ability to communicate in a normal conversation;
Very Frequent – Ability to operate job‑related equipment;
Very Frequent – Ability to reach in all directions.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training preferred. If not trained, must be willing to be trained.
- BA degree preferred.
- Previous experience with elementary‑age children in a school/formal setting.
- Experience with PBIS implementation.
