Family and Consumer Science

Orleans Community Schools is seeking a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher who will help students develop practical life skills, explore career opportunities, and prepare for success beyond school. The successful candidate will provide engaging instruction through classroom learning, hands‑on activities, and real‑world projects while maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment.

• Plan and deliver instruction aligned with applicable Indiana academic standards and district curriculum.
• Teach assigned Family and Consumer Sciences courses, which may include nutrition and wellness, food preparation, child development, interpersonal relationships, consumer education, and related career pathways.
• Design hands‑on lessons and projects that connect classroom learning to everyday life and future careers.
• Establish clear learning goals, assess student understanding, and provide timely feedback.
• Adjust instruction to meet students’ learning needs and implement required accommodations.
• Teach and reinforce safe practices for food preparation, sanitation, equipment use, and laboratory activities.
• Maintain an organized classroom and laboratory, manage supplies and equipment, and communicate purchasing and maintenance needs.
• Promote responsibility, teamwork, communication, problem‑solving, and other employability skills.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support student achievement and strengthen course offerings.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and other assigned school responsibilities.
