Associate Pastor of Preaching, Teaching, and Ministry (APPTM)

Position Status:
Full-time, exempt position

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to provide an associate, assistant role to the Sr. Pastor in preaching, teaching, small group leadership, and general ministry initiative and oversight.

Compensation: TBD by elders, senior pastor and in keeping with annual budget guidelines and congregational approval. It will be reviewed at a minimum annually.

Reporting Relationships:
The APPTM will report on a direct basis to the Sr. Pastor, then to the Elders, and ultimately to the Church Council and congregation

Qualifications & Characteristics:

The APPTM will exhibit the character qualities delineated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. On both a personal and a vocational level, he will exhibit integrity that is beyond reasonable reproach, solid financial stewardship and responsibility, and a commitment to responsible leadership practices and follow-through in plans and commitments. He will exhibit a passion and love for the person and work of Christ and a desire for the glory of God over personal fame or recognition.

He will demonstrate a humility in service that not only looks out for personal interest, but also the interest of others, seeking the unity and harmony of the body of Christ. Demonstrate an openness to ministry feedback, growth, and development

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities

• Assist and cooperate with the Sr. Pastor in planning a sermon calendar and designing sermon series to be preached in Collective Worship
• Deliver a minimum of at least eight sermons per year
• Work with the Sr. Pastor, Elders, and Sunday Class leadership in developing and supporting a teaching curriculum plan for Sunday classes.
• Participate regularly in the rotation and teaching of Sunday classes.
• Participate in the planning and discussion of Community Groups, involving their curriculum, organization, oversight, and be specifically accountable for monthly reporting of attendance, participation and health to the Elders.
• Lead a Community Group
• Teach at least once per quarter in the youth group
• Visit at least twice per quarter the Wednesday youth group meeting
• Visit at least twice per quarter the Wednesday children’s program
• Participate in the annual planning meeting of the Youth and Children’s programs
• Give constructive input and encouragement to the Youth and Children’s programs
• Participate in monthly Elders’ meeting
• Coordinate with Sr. Pastor to develop and implement a plan for pastoral community awareness and engagement

Secondary responsibilities

• Attend SAMA monthly meetings
• Participate in personal and hospital visitation as needed
• Help coordinate a Deacons’ ministry of visitation
• Monthly review of Tiny Treasures ministry and operation
