Under the direction of the Principal, the Instructional Assistant works with individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of students; assistingstudentsbymodelingthenecessaryskillstoperformassignments;followingeducationalandspecific behavioral plans; and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff. Employees in this classification will receive a variety of assignments and will be responsible for performing the following duties:

DESCRIPTION:

• Responsibleforsupervisingandmanagementof students.
  
  Assisting students,takingattendanceand other duties assigned by the Administration.
• Assistteachersinclassroominstructionbyprovidingandpreparinglessonmaterials,monitoring the students during their work and helping them in their learning where necessary.
• Observe students'activitiestoensurestudentsafetyandwell-beingandintervenewhen necessary.
• Ensurethatthenecessarymaterialsforteachingaclass,suchasvisualaids,are prepared, up-to- date, and present in the instruction space.
• Selectandusetraining/instructionalmethodsandproceduresappropriateforthesituation when learning or teaching new things.
• Maintainaclean,sanitaryworkspacethroughuseofhanddisinfectantandsanitizer,inorder to minimize infection risk between colleagues or when working with children.
• Monitorindividualand/orgroupsofstudentsforthepurposeofprovidingasafeandpositive learning environment. Monitor and manage student behavior in a way that maximizes instructional time.
• Provide‘re-teaching'andtutoringsessionsaroundcoreinstructionthatwasdelivered bythe classroom teacher.
• Incollaborationwithteachingfaculty,identifiesstudentswhoarebelowstandardsinspecific skills and knowledge.
• Assiststudentswithassignments thatreinforcelearningconcepts.
• Maintainarecordofinterventionsandprogressmonitoring.
• Implement,underthesupervisionoftheteacher, instructionalprogramsandlessonplansforthe purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Demonstratepreparationandskillinworkingwithstudentsfromdiversecultural,economic andability backgrounds.
• Seekandutilizeappropriateresourcestoenhancestudentlearningandprofessionalpractice.
• Cultivateanenvironmentofrespectandrapportin theclassroomandfosteracultureoflearningvia responsive classroom practices.
• Communicateclearinstructionaloutcomes,directionsandexplanationsofconceptsto students.
• Usequestioninganddiscussiontechniquestodeepenstudentunderstanding.
