Assistant or Associate Professor of Actuarial Sciences

The College of Science at Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Actuarial Science at the assistant or associate professor level, based at Purdue’s Indianapolis campus. Purdue’s Actuarial Science program, jointly administered by the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Statistics, is nationally recognized for excellence in actuarial education. This position is part of an initiative to expand the program to the Indianapolis campus, including the recruitment of additional instructional faculty to support and advance the program’s teaching mission.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field by August 16, 2027, and have demonstrated excellence in research and a strong commitment to teaching. Outstanding applicants in all areas of actuarial science will be considered, including, but not limited to, probability, risk measurement, stochastic modeling, data science, and the broader mathematical and computational sciences.

Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to acquire experience with, or who already have experience with, the examination system that governs the actuarial profession.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop research programs in their fields of expertise, teach courses in actuarial science, develop an external funding portfolio, build connections with the actuarial profession, and participate in the program, college, and broader university activities.

Purdue’s Actuarial Science program is recognized as a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries. The program offers a stimulating academic environment that connects research areas with the actuarial profession. With over 300 undergraduate students and a thriving partnership with Purdue’s Data Mine learning community, the program is also tightly coupled with some of Purdue’s fastest-growing majors, such as Data Science.

Actuarial Science is part of the College of Science, which encompasses the mathematical, computational, physical, and life sciences  College is the second-largest at Purdue with over 350 faculty members and more than 7,000 students. The College is pursuing significant new initiatives that align with campus-wide plans, with data science among its strategic priorities.
