Location: Crane

Kratos Defense is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician supporting the SPY-1 Radar Program in Crane, Indiana. This role is responsible for complex builds, testing, troubleshooting, and depot-level repairs on electronic assemblies, sub-assemblies, and systems with an emphasis on radar system components, RF circuitry, and 2M-certified miniature/microminiature repairs. Supports production, sustainment, and return-for-repair programs by executing advanced diagnostics, performing component-level repair, and ensuring compliance with Navy and DoD technical standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform diversified test operations and troubleshoot electronic assembliesiincluding RF, microwave, and radar subsystem componentsito the component level.
  • Execute 2M miniature and microminiature (Level I & II) certified repairs, including pad replacement, conductor reconstruction, trace repair, and precision soldering on high-density PCBs.
  • Isolate faults within radar signal processing modules, power distribution units, RF front ends, phase shifter drivers, transmit/receive modules, and other radar-related LRU/SRUs.
  • Utilize advanced electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, power meters, frequency counters) to validate radar performance parameters.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose failures in both new production and depot-level return units; drive corrective actions and document results in accordance with internal and government processes.
  • Calibrate, verify, and maintain all electronic test equipment and radar test stations; ensure compliance with calibration schedules at all times.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on manufacturing machines, radar test benches, and support equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively with assembly, engineering, and program teams to ensure on-time delivery of radar assemblies and repair units.
  • Provide accurate and timely updates to production and RFI/return tracking systems; maintain detailed repair and test logs.
  • Interpret and work from Navy technical manuals, depot-level repair procedures, engineering drawings, radar IETMs, and schematics.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information in accordance with government standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with peers, engineers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and government representatives when required.
  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules, safety requirements, and ESD/clean-work protocols.
  • Proficient in reading/understanding assembly drawings, schematics, radar system block diagrams, work instructions, and component identification.
  • Experience performing detailed electronic test operations and depot-level diagnostics.
  • Skilled with common and advanced test equipment: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters, VNAs, function generators, and frequency counters.
  • Ability to work with miniature components and demonstrate exceptional soldering and rework dexterity, including 2M micro-soldering techniques.
  • Familiarity with RF/microwave electronics, radar principles, and high-power RF safety practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes in complex electronic systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; AS degree in Electronic Technology or similar field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Electronic or Test Technician, preferably in a radar, RF, or DoD depot-level maintenance environment.
  • 2M certification (Miniature/Microminiature Repair), or ability to obtain certification, highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of digital, analog, RF, and microwave electronics.
  • Experience supporting radar systems such as SPY-1, SPS-49, SPS-48, or similar DoD sensor systems is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Active DoD Secret Clearance.
