Electronic Technician – SAIC – Indianapolis, IN
Clearance: None required at the time of posting. Candidate must be able to obtain a Secret clearance if needed.
Job Description: SAIC is seeking an Electronic Technician to support NAVAIR in Indianapolis, IN. The role involves engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices, or specialized test equipment. Work is performed from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and trouble‑shooting functions.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble, disassemble, rework, and repair surface‑mount and through‑hole printed circuit board assemblies, flex circuits, sub‑assemblies, and electro‑mechanical assemblies.
- Prepare boards and components, including specialized handling of sensitive components.
- Perform highly skilled soldering and desoldering of fine‑pitch components, including BGA rework.
- Execute modifications, upgrades, and component replacement on complex PCBs.
- Interpret process routings, wiring diagrams, and similar production planning documents or drawings.
- Assemble cabinets, chassis, consoles, or similar devices and install them with electronic or electro‑mechanical equipment.
- Perform informal self‑in‑process checks on manufactured items prior to submission for formal inspection and/or test personnel for product validation and final acceptance.
- Assist other related job classifications when directed.
- Collect and analyze data for Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Qualifications:
- AA Degree in a related discipline and three (3) years of experience, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- Six (6) years of practical experience in electronics repair, maintenance, and testing preferred.
- Formal military electronics training from technical school, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications preferred.
- Deep understanding of electronic component identification and handling, including ESD precautions.
- Ability to read and interpret complex process routings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Knowledge of and experience with IPC standards, especially IPC‑7711 (Rework Procedures).
- Familiarity with IPC‑610 and J‑STD‑001 preferred.
- Understanding of basic electronics, including electronic component identification.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
- Physical requirements:
lift up to 50 pounds; good eyesight and color discrimination; prolonged periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, or squatting; exposure to solvents, flux, thinners, and cleaning compounds; use of magnification lenses and visual aids; personal safety equipment.
Desired
Experience:
- Prior military experience with assembly, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and checkout of electronic equipment.
- Prior experience maintaining, troubleshooting avionic systems integrated into military aircraft armament systems and variants.
