Primary Purpose of Role:
The Facilities Plant Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and control of major engineering projects. Projects may require considerable amount of creativity and initiative. Exercises independent judgment but receives general direction from supervisor. Work is of a technical nature calling for the ability to make decisions based on internal/external standards, engineering judgment, and sound logic. Individual must be able to clearly communicate technical matters to personnel at all levels and functions of the organization.
May provide technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel. May have formal supervisory responsibilities over a group with specific engineering objectives.
- Manages projects with focus on scope, schedule, cost, and quality.
- Manages project consultants and project resources, assures projects are delivered according to scope, design, budget, and timelines as outlined by the Sponsor and as documented in the charter and in compliance with Audit.
- Perform and/or direct work necessary to complete final plans, specifications, and installation/construction of assigned projects.
- Interact and communicate with internal and external parties to assure compliance to federal, state, local, and internal requirements (codes, standards, specifications, procedures, policies, labor agreements, etc.).
- Responsible for project planning. Identifies estimates and presents cost, schedule, and risk for the project.
- Prepares detailed scopes of work, capital appropriation requests, bid packages, and technical documents for projects.
- Develop spreadsheets, databases, presentations, timelines, and other electronic tools as necessary for the tracking, recording, and communication of information in a logical and concise format.
- Influences others to drive issues to resolution.
- Facilitates projects and decisions to keep driving towards overall business objectives.
- Negotiate project SOWs with vendors, consulting firms, and construction companies to deliver a project.
- Ensure all project personnel are working safely and within the applicable rules, policies, and approved procedures.
- Aids with start‑up and commissioning of project deliverables.
- Diagnoses and corrects deficiencies.
- Provides technical direction to support personnel.
- Coordinates engineering projects with other departments or vendors.
- Maintains communication with vendors and/or customers on a regular basis.
