An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Medical Equipment Management Service at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, supporting the delivery of a high‑quality medical equipment service. The role requires an experienced electronic / electro‑mechanical service technician, graduate or technician from a related industry to become a medical equipment technologist. Candidates should hold a degree or technical HND or equivalent qualification in electronics or medical engineering, with experience in an electronic servicing role.

Self‑motivation, teamwork, good interpersonal skills, and a flexible, methodical approach are essential. Experience with anaesthesia and ventilation equipment is advantageous. The post may involve travelling and working at various hospitals and clinics in Lothian.

The Medical Equipment Management service prides itself on staff development, offering clear career progression. Working across many clinical specialities, you will support the delivery of world‑class healthcare at four acute hospital sites and within the local community. You will be part of an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team providing an equipment management service for a wide range of medical equipment.

Work cover: NHS Lothian serves a population of approximately 800,000 across its region, providing comprehensive healthcare services.

Annex 21 Salary Schedule (Trainees)
  • Up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
  • More than 1 but less than 2 years prior to completion of training: 70% of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate.
  • More than 2 but less than 3 years prior to completion of training: 65% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
  • More than 3 years from completion of training: 60% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

The post requires the holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If not a current PVG member, an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before beginning in post. Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, the post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently the case.

As of 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week; part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, with a corresponding increase in hourly rate for equivalent pay.
