We are seeking VMware ESX Platform Operations Engineers with 4+ years of experience to support and manage enterprise VMware ESX‑based Infrastructure‑as‑a‑Service (IaaS) capabilities on‑premises and in Microsoft Azure. The role involves maintaining system stability, automating operational tasks, ensuring high availability for critical workloads, and mentoring global SMEs. This position supports the most critical infrastructure for Lilly Manufacturing and research sites across multiple datacenters.
WhatYou’ll Be Doing
• Support and manage VMware ESX IAAS infrastructure on‑prem and in Azure.
• Maintain system stability, automate operational tasks, and ensure high availability for critical workloads.
• Mentor global Lilly operations SMEs and other platform infrastructure operations SMEs.
• Drive improvements in observability to prevent outages and increase value across the organization.
• Collaborate with enterprise teams to implement solutions that improve availability and reliability.

- Experience with Linux, Windows, VMware vSphere, Dell SAN storage or cloud certifications (bonus).
- Leadership in enterprise‑grade infrastructure solutions across multiple global locations.
- Hands‑on experience with automated infrastructure availability and resiliency (VMware/vSphere/Storage replication) at enterprise scale.
- Knowledge of VMware ESX, Azure VMware Service, IaaS cloud services (EC2, Azure Compute) and tooling such as Python, JSON, YAML, ARM, Git (bonus).
- Ability to optimize, configure, and maintain private cloud infrastructure.
- Track record of high‑quality, agile, team‑based solution delivery.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills – working across global teams.
- Deep understanding of networking concepts (VLANs, trunking) and VMware networking components (Distributed Switches).
- Experience with Zerto and VMware HCX technologies is a plus.
- Experience leading operations for a global, large‑scale ESX infrastructure service.
- 4–7+ years as a VMware ESX / Platform Engineer and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- OR high school diploma/GED and 9+ years of experience as a VMware ESX/Platform Engineer without a degree.

Additional Information- Onsite role located in Indianapolis, IN (relocation required).
- Expected shift hours: 11:30am – 8:30pm EST (Nov‑Mar) / 12:30pm – 9:30pm EDT (Mar‑Nov).
- Shift rotation monthly:
Monday to Friday | Thursday to Monday (subject to change). - Less than 5% travel.

Compensation& Benefits
Base salary range: $64,500 – $151,800. Full‑time employees may be eligible for a company bonus and a comprehensive benefit program, including 401(k), pension, medical, dental, vision, flexible benefits, life insurance, and well‑being programs.
