Role Overview :

The Cloud Database Administrator Senior designs, implements, manages, and optimizes SQL Servers and Postgre

SQL databases across both on-premise environments and cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure. The role involves ensuring data integrity, high availability, and security. You will work closely with state agencies and cloud infrastructure teams to ensure seamless database performance and integration in hybrid environments.

This is senior-level position that requires experience with SQL Server in AWS and Azure. You must be proficient in managing SQL Server and Postgre

SQL databases in an on-premise and cloud environment.

This is anon-site position at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $70,122 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Install, configure, and manage cloud and SQL Server and Postgre

    SQL databases on both on-site servers and in cloud environments (e.g., AWS for RDS, Azure Database, Azure Managed Instance, and Azure VM).
  • Perform upgrades, migrations, patching, and version control for databases.
  • Monitor database health, including query performance, replication, and storage.
  • Manage database security, roles, privileges, and encryption to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive backup strategies for hybrid environments, ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Regularly test and optimize recovery processes for both on-site and cloud databases.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve performance issues, including slow queries, high-latency issues, and inefficient indexing.
  • Implement performance optimization techniques such as partitioning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and cache tuning.
  • Provide solutions for cost management of cloud resources.
  • Proactively monitor and fine-tune databases for high availability and high performance, utilizing various on-site tools and cloud-native monitoring tools.
  • Develop and advise on standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the cloud database and the on-site environment.
  • Design and manage cloud-based Database instances (e.g., AWS RDS, AWS Postgre

    SQL, Azure SQL).
  • Work on database migration from on-site to cloud platforms, ensuring data consistency and minimal downtime.
  • Enforce security best practices for SQL Server and Postgre

    SQL databases, including encryption (at rest and in transit), SSL/TLS, and data masking.
  • Work with agencies to ensure databases are compliant with security regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOC
    2).
  • Consult with and make recommendations to management and associate user groups to define information processing requirements, evaluate technology needs, and formulate solutions.
  • Develop work plans for assigned projects and supervise their execution.
  • Collaborate and provide technical assistance to other database analyst staff.
  • Prepare reports which assist management in understanding the current hardware/software conditions, performance, and future trends.
