- Understand SAP business processes and their underlying data structures across areas such as:
Sales Inventory Supply Chain Master Data. - Understand the relationship between SAP business processes, transactional data, master data, and analytical requirements.
- Identify appropriate SAP data extraction mechanisms and ensure extraction designs are aligned with SAP standards.
- Work with SAP functional and technical teams to understand source-system data models, CDS views, APIs, standard extractors and other relevant SAP data access mechanisms.
- Ensure the target data platform does not unnecessarily replicate SAP application logic or introduce uncontrolled transformation into downstream layers.
- Define appropriate ownership and responsibility between SAP, BDC, Databricks, and Power BI.
- Define the architectural approach for using SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) as the primary data extraction/integration mechanism for S/4
HANA data. - Design data models (conceptual, logical, physical), data flows, data integration architectures (ETL/ELT), data warehousing and data-lake approaches.
- Evaluate and select Azure data services (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory) and integrate them into the architecture.
- Plan and execute data migrations (on-premises to Azure / hybrid cloud) and modernisation of legacy data systems.
- Ensure data quality, data governance, metadata management, security and compliance (including regulatory requirements like GDPR) are addressed in the architecture.
- Optimize performance, scalability, reliability of data solutions (query performance, storage cost, ingestion throughput).

- Advanced Monitoring, Logging, and Alerting (Costs, Performace etc.)
- Performance optimisation, scalability, cost management of data platforms.
- Scripting/programming ability - SQL and Python are essential
- Good understanding of analytics/BI workflows (dashboards, reporting, self‑service analytics) is a plus.
- Familiarity with Azure security, identity, governance (Azure AD, RBAC, encryption at rest, network security)
- Migrating from on-premises or other clouds into Azure: understanding data movement, hybrid connectivity, cost optimisation in Azure
10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering roles in Azure cloud.
Experience leading architectural design of data platforms, especially in cloud/hybrid environments.
