Bilingual (SPANISH) Paralegal – Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS)

Position: A Full-time Bilingual (Spanish) Paralegal. Part of the Central Indiana Medical-Legal Partnership Project. The primary role is to interview potential clients for legal services. Intake interviews are conducted by telephone and at on-site outreach locations. The Bilingual Paralegal will provide paralegal support to the MLP project attorneys and, if ILS certified, provide interpretation and/or translation services. The role includes assisting MLP project attorneys in a variety of civil cases, including family law, public benefits, landlord-tenant, and consumer law, by drafting pleadings, correspondence, and other paralegal and clerical tasks.
Responsibilities- Interview potential clients for legal services (intake).
- Provide paralegal support to MLP project attorneys.
- Offer interpretation and/or translation services if ILS certified.
- Draft pleadings, correspondence, and other paralegal tasks in civil cases (family law, public benefits, landlord-tenant, consumer law).
- Perform clerical tasks as needed to support the MLP project.
- Fluent in Spanish and must pass the ILS bilingual certification test.
- Dedication to the mission of Indiana Legal Services and the medical-legal partnership.
- Interested in helping low-income individuals and families with their legal needs.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience drafting legal correspondence and legal pleadings preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook; able to quickly learn new software.
- Excellent typing skills.
- Sensitivity to applicants and clients from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including clients with health conditions.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
- Strong case, task, and time management skills.
- College degree, paralegal certification, and/or experience working in a law office preferred.
- Experience with intake or outreach preferred, but not required.
- Reliable transportation.
Starting salary: $39,722; salary range up to $52,724 depending on experience. Fringe benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, Rx), disability insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, a flex benefit plan, and generous vacation and sick leave.
