About the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI):
The purpose of the Indiana Department of Insurance is to protect Hoosiers as they purchase and use insurance products to keep their assets and their families from loss or harm. Consumers may need assistance with certain claim situations or just help in understanding how their policies work. Our primary obligation is to monitor the financial solvency of the insurance companies domiciled in Indiana to ensure that the promises made in insurance policies are honored.

Role Overview
:
The Attorney reports to the General Counsel and provides legal advice to various divisions within the Indiana Department of Insurance.
Salary Statement
:
The salary for this position typically starts at $85,020.00 but may be adjusted based on education or experience.
A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role include:
- Advising and supporting agency staff on legal matters
- Overseeing, drafting, reviewing, or advising on contracts
- Researching and interpreting laws, rules, policies, and legal opinions related to agency operations
- Drafting and reviewing legislation and administrative rules
- Ensuring compliance with Title 27 of the Indiana Code
- Tracking NCOIL discussions and model law adoptions
- Researching and analyzing legal issues
- Serving as IDOI Legislative Director
- Attending committee hearings on bills affecting insurance
- Providing reports and responses to legislative inquiries
- Conducting administrative rule making procedures
- Participating in NAIC Legislative Liaison calls
This position is exempt from overtime pay.
What You'll Need for Success:The ideal candidate will have:
- A Juris Doctor degree with 5+ years of legal experience
- Indiana Bar license in good standing
- Knowledge of relevant statutes, case law, and rules
- Effective communication skills
- Experience with case management systems
- Strong legal research, writing, and litigation skills
