About the roleJob Description
Reporting to the Facility / Plant Manager, the Operations Manager oversees the Power Plant's operational responsibilities and requirements, leading a team of direct and indirect reports.
The role provides opportunities to learn, develop and grow at the plant or at other plants in the company.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities- Deliver superior environmental, health, and safety leadership to ensure no accidents, no harm to people, and no damage to the environment while ensuring compliance with all permit requirements.
- Provide leadership, vision, direction, and coaching to effectively lead the team to deliver against the business objectives for the operation and achieve KPIs.
- Effectively organize work and projects with other departments and ensure proper and efficient daily work of all operations team members.
- Administer and supervise studies to improve plant operations and equipment operations, and monitor the effectiveness of plant manuals and procedures, instituting changes or additions, as required.
- Provide assurance of compliance to procedures through auditing.
Ensure the plant's readiness to meet unusual situations and safe, efficient day-to-day operations. - Proficiently inspect boilers and machinery to meet plant performance targets. Manage, track, and implement established technical training programs, as required, and develop new training, as needed.
- Oversee and/or compile and present various technical reports.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of the operations areas to maintain a safe working environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- The plant is 24x7 with hourly employees working 12-hr rotating shifts.
- Industrial, plant environment.
- The ideal candidate will have a B.S. in Engineering or related degree; 10 years of plant operations supervisory/managerial experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.
- Experience to include power plant operations, or high-pressure boiler experience with a sound understanding of power plant operations.
- Materials processing experience (conveyors, cranes, hoppers, etc.).
- The ASME, QRO/CFO Certification is desirable, or must be able to qualify for this certification (or any other required certification) within six months of employment.
- 8 or more years of experience in a supervisory or managerial level role in an industrial or power generating facility.
- Experience in a specialty chemical plant, environment with significant material handling, or coal fired power plant is highly preferred.
- Maintenance experience with outages, rotating and electrical generation equipment (turbine, generator, etc.).
- Experience in or knowledge of one or more of these:
- Electrical and controls systems
- Air compressors
- Condensate pumps
- Cooling water systems
- Understanding of solid fuel combustion practices and materials handling processes.
- Continuous Improvement/Lean Certification.
