Summary
The Manager supervises and coordinates all activities of the fitness center including initiating and implementing programming, setting customer service standards, managing Quality Assurance program guidelines, working with members, developing or maintaining a group fitness program and other duties as assigned. The Manager may also supervise staff at a multi-staffed site. Supervisory responsibilities below are applicable only when the Manager supervises staff.
The Manager reports to the Assistant Director and/or to a Senior Manager.
- Facilitates the development of facility programs, initiatives, goals and objectives; creates and implements action plans to implement programs, and to achieve stated goals; continues to initiate new programs as part of an ongoing effort to stimulate participation and encourage new participants
- Supervises full time staff, Coverage Specialists, Interns, and onsite contractors (where applicable)
- Maintains a positive, service-oriented relationship with client contact; establishes an ongoing positive and professional rapport with members
- Creates budget and monitors expenses against determined budget
- Demonstrates consistent attention to detail and organizational skill, manages competing demands
- Coordinates and oversees all aspects of Fitness Center membership, including but not limited to, evaluating health forms, establishing orientation protocols, tracking members, and conducting renewals
- Assesses health status of members, ranging from apparently healthy to high risk, to provide exercise and other wellness-related counsel/recommendations unique to each individual
- Performs weekly/monthly/annual responsibilities as indicated in the department Operations Manual; maintains proper documentation as requested by the client and/or NIFS supervisor including but not limited to:
- Monthly reports
- Monthly hours
- Quality Assurance requirements
- Injury reports
- Program attendance/registrations
- Membership applications
- Oversees implementation of Quality Assurance program; establishes and maintains facility specific quality standards
- Supervises Group Fitness Instructors and group exercise program; adjusts classes/schedule as needed
- Teaches group exercise classes onsite; provides acceptable activities to meet fitness levels of participants; adheres to appropriate safety guidelines; keeps classes inviting, challenging, and popular
- Supervises the preventive maintenance and repair of exercise equipment; ensures facility cleanliness
- Speaks effectively before groups of customers or employees of client organization
- Writes clearly and informatively, varies writing style to meet audience needs
- Communicates frequently with Assistant Director regarding programming, management questions, and other topics as appropriate
- Demonstrates work ethic, ingenuity, customer care, and attention to detail
- Maintains familiarity with and abides by the policies stated in both the NIFS Employee Handbook as well as the CFM Operations Manual
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Supervises NIFS CFM employees at the client fitness center in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws;
Senior Managers supervise other managers at similar client locations - Organizes or schedules other staff and their tasks; develops realistic action plans
- Demonstrates leadership by exhibiting confidence in self and others, inspiring and motivating others to perform well, and accepting feedback from others; includes staff in planning, decision-making, facilitating and process improvement; encourages and supports intellectual and professional growth of staff
- Takes responsibility for subordinates' activities
- Makes self available to staff
- Continually works to improve supervisory skills
- Monitors and approves payroll for staff if applicable; consistently and accurately approves staff personal and vacation days in accordance with the policies outlined in the NIFS Employee Handbook
