National Institute for Fitness and Sport "NIFS", Zionsville, IN – Part Time
SummaryThe Manager supervises and coordinates all activities of the fitness center, including initiating and implementing programming, setting customer service standards, managing Quality Assurance program guidelines, working with members, developing or maintaining a group fitness program, and performing any other duties as assigned. The Manager may also supervise staff at a multi‑staffed site and reports to the Assistant Director and/or Senior Manager.
Responsibilities- Facilitate the development of facility programs, initiatives, goals and objectives; create and implement action plans to reach stated goals and continually initiate new programs to stimulate participation.
- Supervise full‑time staff, Coverage Specialists, Interns, and onsite contractors (where applicable).
- Maintain a positive, service‑oriented relationship with client contact and establish an ongoing professional rapport with members.
- Create budget and monitor expenses against the determined budget.
- Demonstrate consistent attention to detail and organizational skill while managing competing demands.
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of Fitness Center membership, including evaluating health forms, establishing orientation protocols, tracking members, and conducting renewals.
- Assess health status of members (ranging from apparently healthy to high risk) to provide exercise and wellness advice tailored to each individual.
- Perform weekly/monthly/annual responsibilities as indicated in the department Operations Manual and maintain proper documentation, including:
- Monthly reports
- Monthly hours
- Quality Assurance requirements
- Injury reports
- Program attendance/registrations
- Membership applications
- Oversee implementation of the Quality Assurance program and establish facility‑specific quality standards.
- Supervise Group Fitness Instructors and the group exercise program; adjust classes/schedule as needed.
- Teach group exercise classes onsite; provide activities that meet fitness levels of participants, adhere to safety guidelines, and keep classes inviting, challenging, and popular.
- Supervise preventive maintenance and repair of exercise equipment; ensure facility cleanliness.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the client organization.
- Write clearly and informatively, varying style to meet audience needs.
- Communicate frequently with the Assistant Director about programming, management questions, and other topics as appropriate.
- Demonstrate work ethic, ingenuity, customer care, and attention to detail.
- Maintain familiarity with and abide by policies in the NIFS Employee Handbook and the CFM Operations Manual.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Supervise NIFS CFM employees at the client fitness center in accordance with organization policies and applicable laws.
- Organize or schedule staff tasks and develop realistic action plans.
- Demonstrate leadership by fostering confidence, inspiring performance, and encouraging staff growth.
- Treat subordinates’ activities as a priority and be available to staff.
- Continuously improve supervisory skills and monitor staff performance.
- Approve payroll, vacation days, and personal time in compliance with the NIFS Employee Handbook.
- Conduct performance reviews and delegate projects based on staff strengths.
- Address performance issues and collaborate with the Assistant Director on hiring, firing, or discipline matters.
- Technical Skills – Perform Essential Duties and Supervisory Responsibilities, pursue training, assess strengths, and practice independent judgment in health coaching.
- Problem Solving – Resolve problems promptly, gather and analyze information, and develop alternative solutions.
