Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer develops and implements optimal, cost‑effective assembly processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launches for new or revised products; works with the manufacturing manager to ensure standards for manufacturing are maintained. Responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining technical aspects of the assembly process, designing and/or validating equipment, and planning the manufacturing processes in a designated area of the manufacturing plant.

  • Design manufacturing systems focused on continuous improvement related to quality and throughput capability of the assembly equipment.
  • Develop process documentation (process stack sheets, routing, PFMEA, process flow diagrams, error‑proofing plans).
  • Analyze proposals for new machinery and equipment.
  • Lead testing and evaluation of new machinery and equipment.
  • Provide technical support to plant operations.
  • Develop and implement major Capital Appropriations projects.
  • Develop cost estimates for new and major programs.
  • Present a physical presence in the workplace.
  • Design, procure, qualify and launch assembly systems in a high‑volume production setting.
  • Support production systems with continuous improvement and updates to existing equipment.
  • Show strong understanding of torqueing systems, electrical and hydraulic press applications, automatic assembly, error‑proofing, vision systems, and robotic applications.
  • Commit to requirements in safety, quality, cost, and project timeline adherence.

Required Qualifications
  • High level of analytical ability.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including regular communication across functions and with senior management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional group setting.

  • Ability to provide relevant, essential technical guidance to support senior management.
  • CAD proficiency (preferably NX and/or AutoCAD).

  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Expertise in at least one – Assembly.
  • Understanding of machine‑tool specifications, construction and maintenance, with ability to document this knowledge in RFQ packages and best‑practice documents and to participate in specification revisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience.
  • Experience with statistical qualification of machinery, equipment, and gauges, and ability to improve and document methods for completing these tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Q‑S and T‑S quality system requirements.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Specific specialized skills (CNC programming, CMM programming, nut‑runner programming, robotic programming, ladder logic, etc.).
  • Understanding of transmission fundamentals.
  • Formal problem‑solving training.
  • Experience working effectively with hourly employees in a manufacturing environment.
