About the ISMHS Development Team
The Development team at ISMHS is responsible for securing philanthropic support from a diverse mix of donors including individuals, corporations, and foundations. Members of the Development team must be comfortable managing various roles and strategies to cultivate, solicit and steward these donors.
Role Overview
The Development and Database Manager furthers the mission of ISMHS by managing the development department’s operations, database, data analytics and prospect research in support of our diverse efforts to secure charitable contributions and strengthen relations with ISMHS funders, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. You will be a vital part of the development team and will report to the Vice President of Development.
The Development and Database Manager is an in‑person position that will be based in downtown Indianapolis and occasionally be required to travel statewide to work directly with the communities surrounding ISMHS’s 12 locations, as well as to work occasional weekends and evenings.
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $66,950 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.
- Manage fundraising aspects in a museum‑wide database (Blackbaud Altru) to ensure on‑going accuracy and integrity of data and records.
- Conduct daily entry of all gifts and prepare timely acknowledgment letters, tax receipts, invoices, and pledge reminders.
- Reconcile monthly financials with the finance department.
- Track and manage donor recognition and funder benefits and activation.
- Assist in monitoring goals and progress toward fundraising goals by creating and managing reports/queries.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure an accurate and robust donor pipeline and prospect portfolio management program are in place.
- Building and ongoing management of donor portfolios
- Conduct research to identify potential funders by analyzing data gained from Target Analytics and other data sources to determine donor giving capacity, propensity, and affinity.
- Work closely with the Vice President of Development to manage the portfolio of the CEO to ensure timely donor solicitation and communication.
- Work closely with the Vice President of Development to implement touchpoints from the donor engagement plan.
- Work collaboratively with the Development team to ensure that donor contacts are recorded in Altru and reviewed as needed.
- Proactively create concise, accurate, and timely research profiles on donors and prospects, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and potential board members.
- Support ISMHS events, tours, and other stewardship activities.
- Manage development‑focused software applications.

Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
