Job Description
The University of Notre Dame is seeking a dedicated Groundskeeper to support the care and maintenance of its nationally recognized campus. This role is responsible for routine landscape maintenance and seasonal operations that ensure the University’s outdoor spaces remain safe, functional, and visually exceptional year-round.
Groundskeepers play an essential role in maintaining campus trees, shrubs, flower beds, turf areas, and landscaped spaces, as well as supporting new construction and renovation projects. This position also assists with snow and ice removal during winter months to ensure campus accessibility and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine landscape maintenance in a university setting, including care of lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas
- Install plants and flowers for new construction projects and building renovations
- Operate landscape maintenance equipment and tools safely and effectively
- Assist with seasonal duties, including snow and ice removal
- Utilize work order systems to track and complete assigned tasks
- Follow written and verbal instructions to complete work accurately and efficiently
- Collaborate with team members and campus departments to support daily operations
- Work independently to complete assigned responsibilities as needed
This position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions and may require operating equipment and performing physical tasks consistent with grounds and landscape maintenance.

QualificationsEducation & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- 6–12 months of relevant experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use electronic work order systems.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Strong team orientation with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and meet expectations with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to safety, reliability, and high‑quality workmanship.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by athletic schedules.
- Working familiarity with equipment used in athletic field maintenance, landscape maintenance, and snow and ice removal.
- Thorough knowledge of safety standards associated with athletic field management.
- Knowledge of athletic turf management, irrigation systems, or sports facility preparation.
- Experience with snow removal equipment and grounds machinery.
- Turf management certification or coursework.
