The French‐German Research Institute of Saint‐Louis (ISL) situated in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland is an internationally renowned research institute belonging to a global industrial and economic network.

At the ISL, we perform fundamental and applied research in the field of pulsed power and its applications on world-class level. In the community, the term pulsed power is used for the generation and application of electrical power pulses in the range of GW and more. Such power levels are rare in civil engineering. They are needed for instance for inertial confinement fusion.

One of the applications of pulsed power we study at our institute is electromagnetic acceleration. We have several installations allowing to accelerate macroscopic masses to more than 3000 m/s. It goes without saying that research in this field is quite fascinating. In Europe, the installations at our institute are unique.

For immediate placement, we are currently looking for a
Scientist in the field of electromagnetic acceleration (m/f/d).

• You will be member of a research group consisting of people with different backgrounds working at the front line of experimental research
• You will engage in scientific investigations of specific aspects (e.g. metrology) being important to bring forward the launch technology
• You will develop models and perform numerical simulations on specific components
• You will work on projects and write reports and publications in English

• You hold a completed scientific degree (PhD) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or comparable fields
• Knowledge in the field of pulsed power is advantageous
• You are passionate about scientific work and technical developments
• Good English in spoken and written form complete your profile. Good command of French and/or German would be considered as an advantage but is not mandatory
• You have good communication skills:
  You like to work in a team, take initiatives, you are a good organiser adapting easily to new situations
