Position OverviewIndiana University Health is seeking a compassionate and experienced Counselor (MS Licensed) to provide expert mental health services in a dynamic treatment environment. This role involves facilitating patient involvement in treatment, conducting individual, group, and family counseling, and ensuring safe, effective discharge planning.
Responsibilities- Facilitating patient participation in treatment and education within the milieu.
- Conducting individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
- Performing utilization review and discharge planning functions.
- Collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure timely, safe, and resourceful patient care.
- Interpreting and communicating complex patient and family needs, modeling caring practices to team members.
- Assessing psychosocial risk factors through evaluation of prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.
- Counseling patients and families on emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness or disability.
- Mobilizing community and family resources to meet patient needs.
- Providing mental health assessments by physician referral.
- Supporting complex discharge planning and crisis intervention.
- Serving as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elder abuse, domestic violence, and institutional abuse.
- Acting as liaison with child and adult protective services (APS/CPS) and community agencies.
- Providing intervention in guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements.
- Education:
Master’s Degree in a mental health field such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related discipline from an accredited institution. - Licensure:
Current Indiana license as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP required. - Experience:
3-5 years in health care, mental health, or community-based settings. - Certifications:
- Crisis Intervention certification within 90 days of hire.
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Evidence-Based Practices (CBT, MI, DBT).
- Psychosocial assessment, therapeutic counseling, and crisis intervention techniques.
- Legal mandates for child and adult protective services.
- Principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Crisis de-escalation techniques and creating a safe environment.
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong relationship-building skills with community, law enforcement, schools, and other agencies.
