On-call Field Archaeologist at WSP in the U.S.

WSP’s Cultural Resources Management Team is located across the United States.
WSP has immediate openings for on-call Field Archaeologists for a long-term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi-component Pre‑Contact archaeological sites, located in close proximity to each other. These sites contain components dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre‑Contact periods, and may include remains of the early use of plants of the Eastern Agricultural Complex.

This is an on‑call, hourly position. Rate depends on experience. Candidates local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas are ideal. All qualified applicants will be considered. WSP also has ongoing Phase I, II, and III work in other states.

• Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (and Phase I & II work), including:
  • archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation;
  • excavation of cultural features;
  • recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials;
  • use archaeological field forms to record data, including types and numbers of artifacts, soil color (Munsell), soil textures, and other relevant information;
• Work effectively as part of a team;
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies;
• Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies;

• Undergraduate degree in anthropology/archaeology or a closely related field;
• Archaeological field school or similar field experience;
• Self‑motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions;

• Prior experience with Pre‑Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region;
• Pre‑Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis;
