Location: Grabill

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Client Relationship Banker to join our team! This full‑time position requires meeting individual and team sales metrics, acting as the primary point of contact for sales and service requests, and delivering a meaningful client experience. The role includes leading new account acquisition, outbound calling, consumer loan processing, and business banking activities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality customer service on general banking matters.
  • Assess client financial positions to identify additional relationship opportunities.
    • Consult with staff on check cashing, stop‑payment orders, client reconciliation, and complaint resolution.
    • Engage team members and business partners to assist clients with personal and business banking needs.
    • Perform lobby management responsibilities.
  • Drive productivity and growth through:
    • Developing and implementing sales tactics for consumer deposits, loan growth, and customer acquisition.
    • Achieving partner referral and appointment goals monthly.
    • Participating in teleconsulting activities, call blocks, and call nights.
    • Owning results of marketing campaigns and promotions.
    • Capitalizing on referrals from team members and business partners.
    • Using guided conversation in the client profiling tool to deepen relationships and deliver a whole‑bank experience.
    • Converting service and problem‑resolution opportunities into sales opportunities.
    • Utilizing digital tools to educate clients and encourage adoption of electronic banking products during onboarding.
    • Completing all new account onboarding activities in a timely fashion.
    • Exceeding individual and team sales goals.
    • Engaging in outbound calling activities such as First Direct presentations, community partnerships, HSA presentations, business banking calls, and partner calls.
  • Assist with sales and service leadership:
    • Supporting associates to attain sales and service goals.
    • Leading daily huddles, weekly sales meetings, touch‑bases, and coaching sessions.
    • Utilizing CRM and other sales tools to record, track, and maintain sales records for the incentive plan.
    • Monitoring and resolving deposit and loan exceptions promptly to ensure compliance and improve client experience.
    • Training, coaching, and guiding staff on operational and sales skills.
  • Ensure compliance with information and physical security policies, including consumer and business verification procedures.
  • Attend and/or complete required training sessions.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with regulations and reporting, such as BSA, OFAC, CIP, EDD, etc.
  • Participate in completing the branch daily security checklist and operational tasks, including opening and closing responsibilities, audits, and banking center balancing.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Over two years of banking, sales, or related experience selling products or services; alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with demonstrated leadership or goal achievement in related activities.
  • Position requires S.A.F.E Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). Employees must meet qualification requirements within three months of hire.
  • Obtain Notary Public designation within six months of employment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for long periods and move freely around the office.
  • Ability to lift files, open file cabinets, bend, and stoop.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior banking experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to sell and cross‑sell banking products and services.
