We study the pathophysiology of the inner ear using a novel human stem cell–derived 3D inner ear organoid model in conjunction with genetic mouse models. Our work focuses on genetically–mediated hair cell and neuronal degeneration to identify cellular networks that lead to cell death and to discover molecules that can prevent degeneration.
Our dynamic research team includes Rick Nelson, MD, PhD, and Eri Hashino, PhD. Publications from our group include Stem Cells, Stem Cell Reports, Molecular Therapy, and Cell Stem Cell.
