Job DescriptionGrid Hawk LLC, The Premier Provider for Utility Services, is seeking a Utility Watch and Protect Technician. The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to utility protection for utility clients, overseeing contractors digging on and around gas facilities, and monitoring excavation to help prevent damage to critical facilities. This position also works as a field auditor to ensure the safe and accurate practice of Utility Technicians.
Duties include completing audits and job site standbys to ensure safety of the contractor and the local public.
- Background check required for employment with Grid Hawk LLC. Company policy requires no violations within the last 5 years. Candidates must also take and pass a DOT drug test.
All employees are assigned proper technology and work vehicles to perform all work-related duties. Tools provided to achieve success include:
- Company vehicle, laptop, and smartphone
- Uniforms and all personal protective equipment
- Compares real world conditions to the record documentation to identify errors and omissions.
- Verifies location of all client facilities within specified dig extents.
- Watches and protects client facilities within a given area as directed by the client.
- Understands contractor’s means and methods for subsurface installations.
- Monitors and provides surveillance of critical infrastructure where excavations are known or planned.
- Contacts excavators and schedules monitoring of critical excavation.
- Monitors excavations near critical infrastructure to prevent damage to client facilities.
- Locates and marks underground facilities using industry tools, standards and methods including locating devices and utility maps.
- Performs ticket audits to ensure locators are accurately locating facilities and following proper marking procedures.
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the locating industry
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the locating industry
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with citizens, company, contractor representatives, and customers
- Good organizational skills to handle many tasks at once
- Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices
- Experience with construction and installation of below grade infrastructure
- Experience working with existing utility standard designs
- Experience with complex urban underground utility infrastructure
- Experience serving as firm/client liaison
- Experience reviewing design drawings created by others
- Experience with the use and basic maintenance of industry standard locating equipment
- Experience using basic communication and tech devices
- Capable of moving about on construction work sites, public streets, and parkways
- Capable of lifting up to 50/75 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, or sit for extended periods
- Hand-eye coordination to operate computers and various measurement, locating and testing instruments
- Work safely outside in all weather conditions year-round
- Occasionally work in excavations areas and roadways
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration
- Noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate to loud
