Position Overview
:

Do you love tackling complicated problems – figuring out the creative solution to assist our neighbors in challenging circumstances? The position of Income Supports Coach links residents of the southeast side of Indianapolis to support services provided by Southeast Community Services as well as co-located services and public agencies within the general community. The coach will assess service needs and determine eligibility for public services or other referrals.

The mission of Southeast is to “work together to serve, strengthen and support our neighbors in southeast Indianapolis.” As a Center for Working Families, we offer bundled coaching in financial empowerment, education and employment, access to essential resources like food, and help navigating public benefits. This holistic, trauma-informed model supports the whole person—and the whole family—so neighbors can move forward with confidence in all areas of life.

Primary Responsibilities:

Coaching (65%)

  • Using the co-active coaching model to work with neighbors to set and reach their goals
  • Developing strong coaching relationships with our neighborhood residents for long-term results
  • Assist neighbors in navigating the public and community-based supports that may be available to them and their families
  • Staying abreast of the ever-changing landscape of resources available
  • Using compassion, understanding, and creativity to thoughtfully work with neighbors through difficult circumstances
Data (15%)
  • Managing outcome tracking and documentation requirements as required by our various grants and funders
  • Regularly documenting progress of participants through Efforts to Outcomes and Salesforce or any additional data collection systems

Other Duties (20%)

  • Coordinating and working with all team members to promote and facilitate participation for potential individuals that might benefit from the program.
  • Developing relationships with resources and other support services within the community to better facilitate referrals and wrap-around supports for our neighbors
  • Represent SECS at various community events like job and resource fairs when needed
  • Lead workshops and community conversations regarding SECS services for various SECS constituencies
  • Support other centre efforts by manning shared shifts at the front desk/pantry/etc. as needed
  • Perform other duties, as necessary and requested by supervisor

Preferred Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Fluency, both written and spoken, in Spanish and English required.
  • Prior case management/human services or other relevant experience is highly valued
  • High school diploma or equivalency required - college education/degree is optional
  • Excellent social/interpersonal skills and writing ability commensurate with the communication and reporting requirements of the position
  • Team-focused mindset
  • Record of handling sensitive information appropriately
  • Strong computer skills including experience with MS Office applications, using the Internet and database management
  • General knowledge and understanding of the needs of a low-income working population, as well as knowledge of available community resources
  • Well-organized and self-directed, with ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with great attention to detail
  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population of neighbors

Work Environment

  • There will be some instances when work in the evening or weekends may be required; work hours will be adjusted accordingly when this occurs
