At Lilly, the work is demanding because patients are waiting. We unite caring with discovery to help make life better for people around the world, knowing that every decision, every detail, and every day matters. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, our over 50,000 employees around the globe take on complex challenges to discover and deliver life-changing medicines, strengthen how health is understood and managed, and support the communities we serve.
This is hard, urgent, selfless work—but it’s work worth doing. If you’re driven by purpose and ready to bring your best to work that truly matters for patients, we invite you to join us.
Come develop great software solutions to solve exciting problems that help patients!
What You'll Be DoingAs part of a collaborative team of versatile engineers, you will build reusable, composable software components, taking them from design and requirement specifications through implementation, testing, and integration into Software Product Engineering's next-generation platform ecosystem. By continuously improving the design, building for maintainability, and ensuring the product meets both business and patient needs, your work will transform patient experiences and improve treatment outcomes.
HowYou'll Succeed
- Develop, test, and deploy components into provisioned cloud platform environments through automated Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD) processes.
- Review and implement technical designs, translating them into APIs, user interfaces, libraries, and services across a range of programming languages while adhering to Lilly's architecture, design, implementation, and security standards.
- Use AI coding tools to accelerate design exploration, implementation, testing, and debugging, while owning the correctness, security, and maintainability of everything you ship.
- Build and integrate AI capabilities into products, such as LLM-powered features and agent tools, where they improve patient and user outcomes.
- Build working knowledge of medical device delivery models and quality systems, including GxP expectations, to ensure solutions align with regulatory requirements and timelines.
- Integrate open source and licensed components into larger solutions, making practical reuse decisions and ensuring dependencies are sourced through approved enterprise channels (e.g., Artifactory) and meet security and licensing requirements.
- Investigate and propose solutions to development and design problems through open collaboration and healthy debate, including scope estimation and forecasting.
- Collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, engineers, stakeholders, and vendors within the team and across Lilly.
- Establish strong relationships with technical leaders and architects to influence technology direction for Software Product Engineering platforms and products.
- Practice effective source control, code review, and collaborative programming to drive high-quality outcomes.
- Partner with data professionals to implement database and data warehousing solutions.
- Complete projects with minimal supervision and direction.
- Experience designing and building cloud-native applications using containerized services and microservices architectures on AWS or Azure.
- Exposure to large-scale architectural patterns, ideally with hands‑on experience implementing event‑driven systems using Apache Kafka (or similar) for scalable, resilient processing.
- Strong object-oriented programming skills, excellent debugging skills, and expertise with data serialization, REST APIs, and version control.
- Experience with Type Script, Node.js, or a JVM language (e.g., Kotlin) for building front‑end and back‑end services,…
