Technical SME - Warehouse Management System / Transportation Management System
Client is seeking an Architect / Programmer Analyst to lead the ongoing support, modernization, and evolution of its mission-critical Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Transportation Management System (TMS) applications.
This role combines approximately 60% technical leadership and solution architecture with 40% hands-on development. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with warehouse and transportation management systems, strong programming and database skills, and a thorough understanding of the business processes and integrations that support distribution operations.
The successful candidate will partner closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and existing subject matter experts to maintain operational stability, drive application enhancements, and lead key modernization and system migration initiatives. The focus is on evolving existing applications strategically rather than replacing the entire WMS environment with a third-party package.
Must-Haves
- 10+ years of technology experience supporting and developing WMS and TMS solutions.
Strong understanding of warehouse, inventory, fulfillment, shipping, and transportation operations.
- Experience with TMS implementations, migrations, integrations, or system upgrades.
- Advanced SQL Server/T-SQL skills, including stored procedures and query optimization.
- Hands-on development experience with C#, .NET, and enterprise applications.
- Experience supporting and modernizing legacy business-critical applications.
- Strong background in solution architecture, system integrations, APIs, and data flows.
- Ability to partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience with production support in high-availability distribution or logistics environments.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with Power Builder, Sybase, Delphi, or Oracle environments.
- Experience migrating Sybase to SQL Server.
- Knowledge of React and legacy application modernization.
- Experience with ERP integrations and supply chain technology ecosystems.
- Familiarity with Azure Dev Ops, Git, Serena PVCS, or similar development tools.
- Experience modernizing custom applications while preserving core business processes.
- Knowledge of on-premises and hybrid/cloud architectures.
- Experience in distribution, logistics, transportation, publishing, or fulfillment operations.
- Strong documentation, knowledge transfer, and legacy system support capabilities.
