About

the Role

The Lifeguard will support the mission of Camp Dellwood by supervising and ensuring a safe environment at all water activities, and assisting in the management of waterfront facilities and equipment.

How You Will Lead (Responsibilities)
  • Supervise and guard all water activities.
  • Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to help prevent and manage injuries.
  • Perform rescues as needed.
  • Utilize first aid, CPR, and other emergency management services.
  • Respond appropriately to changes in water or weather conditions affecting the waterfront.
  • Evaluate aquatic abilities of campers and staff.
  • Assist instructional staff in program areas, ensuring safety procedures are followed.
  • Act as a reference in waterfront activities.
  • Deliver and supervise all water activities and special events at the waterfront.
  • Manage and care for physical facilities and equipment in the waterfront program area: daily safety, cleanliness, and repair checks; clean waterfront, bathroom, and change areas daily.

Job Duties
  • Participate enthusiastically in rain‑day program activities.
  • Work with the camp staff team to deliver and supervise programs, special events, and other activities.
  • Assist in planning special events on or near the waterfront.
  • Provide a cohesive program atmosphere for campers.
  • Follow all camp rules and regulations.
  • Clean equipment at the start and end of the summer season.
  • Perform any additional duties as required.
  • Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and among the membership.

What We Are Looking For (Qualifications)
  • Current certification in lifeguard training or equivalent.
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR (advanced certification may be required based on camp location).
  • Must be 16 years old or older.

Skills and Abilities
  • Training and experience in waterfront activities offered at the camp.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in the water.
Physical Aspects of the Position
  • Communicate and work with groups at various age and skill levels, providing instruction to campers, volunteers, and staff.
  • Observe camper and staff behavior, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply behavior‑management techniques.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards.
  • Physical ability to respond to first‑aid situations and assist in emergencies such as fire, evacuation, illness, or injury.
  • Maintain constant supervision of campers with required strength and endurance.
Background Check

Background check is required.

Membership Requirement

Must hold membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Requirements
  • Endurance, including prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Requires eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate waterfront equipment.
  • Normal hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities and programs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate with daily exposure to sun, heat, and varying water conditions.
