Job Description
The Driver is responsible for safely transporting IADC Guests to and from their homes and the Center. The Driver performs vehicle safety checks, escorts the Guests from their front door into the vehicle, operates the mechanical lift as necessary, makes certain that all Guests are properly using seatbelts and chair straps, and ensures Guests are safely unloaded and escorted into the Center.
The Driver must also accurately document details and communicate cancellations and requests to reschedule to the Center Administrative team. Drivers must know and be able to carry out the plan of care for each of the Center Guests. The driver must maintain a valid Operator License (CDL not required), have a clean driving record, and pass a physical examination.

Position: Driver
Reports to: Executive Director
Essential Functions
- Provide transportation for Adult Day Guests to and from their homes and the Center and occasionally to and from outings
- Learn and follow instructions for safe operation of vehicles and lifts
- Assist Guests with door‑to‑door transportation, including loading, securing, and unloading wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters
- Follow assigned routes and document pick‑ups and drop‑offs using designated software on company‑issued smart‑phone
- Maintain company property and devices to a high standard, including regular cleaning of interior and exterior of vehicles
- Perform and document regular safety and preventative maintenance checks
- Re‑fuel and replace washer fluid according to designated procedures
- Maintain adequate levels of emergency supplies
- Report required repairs and maintenance to designated supervisor
- Demonstrate knowledge of and operate vehicles according to Indiana State Laws
- Ensure safety and comfort of all passengers
- Immediately report to the Executive Director all incidents and accidents—including personal injury or self or passengers
- Report any traffic citations, accidents, or conviction or change in driver’s license status whether incurred during or outside of work
- Maintain knowledge of on‑going program issues and developments and inform supervisor of program issues and concerns
- Communicate in a friendly and professional manner
- Report to scheduled shifts on‑time and well‑rested
- Always remain alert throughout scheduled work shift
- Successfully complete assigned new‑hire and ongoing trainings, maintain required licensures, certifications and designations
- Provide crisis intervention and access emergency services as needed
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings
- Ensure that Guests are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Independent Adult Day Centers Standard of Conduct Policy
- Demonstrate a team‑oriented mentality with effective communication, ability to multitask, flexibility, and support for peers
- Other job‑related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current driver’s license with auto insurance
- Must Pass DOT Physical Examination
- Driving record with less than 4 points and free of SR22's
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Professional driving experience preferred
- Must be able to lift 50 or more pounds
- Ability to be timely, patient, and accommodating
- Familiarity with the area preferred
- Possess a positive attitude and ability to work with interdisciplinary team of professionals
- Qualifying criminal background check
- Must be able to demonstrate competence in certain areas of training including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, non‑violent physical interventions, behavior management, wheelchair lift operation, driving
- Ability to calmly and repeatedly model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations
- Ability to react to situations, i.e., rescue, preventing Guests from hurting themselves
