Grand Industrial is seeking an experienced, safety-focused CDL Class A Heavy Equipment Driver to join our team based out of Lebanon, Indiana
.

This position primarily supports our industrial and construction operations by transporting heavy construction equipment
, including dozers, boom lifts, forklifts, telehandlers, and other heavy machinery, between our facilities and project sites.

We are specifically looking for a driver with experience operating lowboy / removable gooseneck (RGN) trailers and hauling heavy equipment. Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to flatbed or step-deck freight hauling may not be the best fit for this position.

Most trips are short, regional runs, and the driver is typically home daily. This is not primarily an over-the-road trucking position. Due to the nature and distance of our typical routes,
electronic logs (ELDs) are generally not required for most trips, when applicable under DOT regulations.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of professional CDL Class A driving experience, be comfortable loading and securing heavy equipment, and be able to operate both manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport dozers, boom lifts, telehandlers, forklifts, construction machinery, and other heavy equipment to and from project sites.
  • Operate lowboy and removable gooseneck (RGN) trailers used for transporting heavy construction equipment.
  • Safely load and unload heavy equipment onto trailers.
  • Properly position, chain, bind, and secure equipment in accordance with DOT and company requirements.
  • Operate both manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles.
  • Transport oversized or overweight equipment when required and ensure applicable permits and routing requirements are followed.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip, post-trip, and routine inspections of trucks and trailers.
  • Maintain required driver logs, inspection reports, permits, and transportation records.
  • Plan and follow safe and efficient routes while ensuring timely equipment deliveries.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, field personnel, and company leadership regarding equipment movements and scheduling.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of assigned trucks and trailers.
  • Assist with general equipment, vehicle, shop, and yard activities when not actively transporting loads.
  • Operate forklifts and other construction equipment when required.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and Grand Industrial safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Valid Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional CDL Class A driving experience required.
  • Previous lowboy and/or removable gooseneck (RGN) trailer experience strongly required.
  • Demonstrated experience hauling heavy construction equipment or machinery.
  • Ability to safely load, unload, position, and secure heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper chain, binder, tie-down, and load securement procedures.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and commercial transportation safety requirements.
  • Excellent driving record and ability to qualify under company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to operate both manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate construction equipment for loading and unloading purposes.
  • Experience transporting oversized or overweight loads preferred.
  • Forklift and heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with project and field personnel.
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends when project schedules require.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with heavy equipment transportation, including climbing, chaining, binding, securing loads, and operating equipment.
