Chief Software Engineer (Weapon System Integration)

Join V2X Inc’s multi-discipline development team in Indianapolis, IN, supporting next-generation avionics and weapon system integration. The Chief Software Engineer will serve as the primary technical authority for all software activities across WSI programs, guiding the software development lifecycle from architecture and design through implementation, integration, and verification.

• Lead the Integrated Product Team (IPT) as the technical lead for software engineering across WSI programs.
• Define software architecture, requirements, design, implementation, integration, and verification, ensuring alignment with system-level objectives.
• Mentor and grow the engineering team, promoting technical excellence and continuous process improvement.
• Drive adoption of rigorous coding standards, industry best practices, and effective configuration management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support DoD customers and international allies.

• Minimum of 10 years related experience in software development or engineering.
• Excellent communication skills for internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, and Universal Armament Interface (UAI).
• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and DoD development processes.
• Domain expertise in Weapons/Effects, Command & Control, datalinks, or airborne platform integration.
• Proficiency in proposal development, cost estimation, and technical writing for complex bids and government contracts.
• Experience reading and developing from Interface Control Documents (ICD).
• Leadership experience in large-scale software architecture and software engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and software configuration management.
• Experience with Agile and Dev Sec Ops  software development environments.
• Strong communication and teaming skills within Agile or Dev Ops Sw development teams.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, coaching, and training.
• Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.

• Experience leading software development in highly regulated aerospace and defense environments.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and vulnerability management.
• Proven track record of leading geographically distributed or multi‑site teams.
• Prior experience interfacing directly with government customers, primes, or regulatory agencies.
• Knowledge of software safety standards such as DO‑178C, ISO 26262, IEC 62304, or similar.
• Strong public speaking and presentation skills for leadership briefings and technical reviews.
• Ability to influence cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
• Prior experience as a Chief Engineer, Software Technical Lead, or equivalent.
• Current/active DoD Secret level or higher clearance.

• BS with a major in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM program.
