Tank Farm & Solvent Recovery (TFSR) Engineering Manager

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) molecules located in Lebanon, IN. This facility is the company’s largest investment in manufacturing capacity and will provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a greenfield manufacturing site startup team and help build processes and facilities to enable a successful GMP manufacturing operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering:
    • Build deep technical engineering expertise in tank farm, solvent recovery, waste systems, and support systems (bulk nitrogen, ventilation, cryogenic emission).
    • Maintain GMP and non‑GMP systems; trend critical parameters and stay aware of industry standards.
    • Resolve compliance activities such as deviations, change controls, and CAPAs.
    • Ensure processes align with external regulations, Lilly standards, and best practices.
    • Participate in teams, committees, and initiatives to achieve departmental, site, and company goals.
  • People Management:
    • Lead and manage resources effectively.
    • Ensure team compliance and training on programs, procedures, policies.
    • Lead safety communications and participate in safety audits.
    • Drive performance management initiatives.
    • Support development plans and career path development for employees.
    • Align team towards site and team goals.
    • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and development of engineers.
    • Set expectations for a positive and proactive safety culture.
  • Engineering Management:
    • Provide engineering direction for projects and design needs.
    • Support regulatory and internal audit activities.
    • Own incident reporting, investigation, and corrective measures.
    • Maintain continuous compliance and improve process efficiency.
    • Ensure compliance with quality, global engineering, and related standards.
    • Establish and maintain metrics to support manufacturing.
    • Develop local processes and procedures in accordance with fume system requirements.
    • Guide scope development, time schedules, and cost estimates for projects.
    • Ensure successful documentation of technical changes and projects.
    • Support safety and environmental process activities.
    • Direct and develop engineers in capital project execution, operator training, start‑up support, and troubleshooting.
Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years extensive progressive chemical process and plant experience.
  • 2+ years supervisory experience in engineering.
Additional Preferences
  • Experience in facility or area start‑up environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in manufacturing or maintenance.
  • Strong collaboration, independent decision‑making, and influence across diverse groups.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, set objectives, meet targets, and provide high‑level customer service.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is $99,000 – $145,200.

Full‑time equivalent employees will also be eligible for a company bonus, depending in part on company and individual performance. Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including 401(k), pension, vacation benefits, medical/dental/vision, flexible benefits, life insurance, and well‑being benefits.
