We are currently seeking Director, Transportation - Highway, to lead the engineering design and delivery of roadway, sidewalk, and intersection projects within our Transportation Division in Indiana. This position can be located in our New Albany or Indianapolis, IN offices.

What You'll Do:

In this role, you’ll not only drive technical excellence on projects, but also lead the expansion of our highway group across Indiana by leveraging your professional network, cultivating client relationships, and actively engaging in key industry organizations. This position blends hands-on design expertise with high-level leadership, offering the opportunity to shape both our projects and our market presence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead Design & Delivery – Oversee the planning and design of diverse highway, bridge, and traffic projects, including urban and rural roadways, interstates, interchanges, MOT, ADA compliance, and highway safety initiatives.
  • Ensure Quality & Compliance – Manage deliverables through all project phases, ensuring accuracy of layouts, plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Team Leadership – Supervise and mentor design engineers and technicians, providing guidance, technical expertise, and performance feedback.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Coordination – Collaborate with internal design teams and manage subconsultants to deliver seamless, multidisciplinary project outcomes.
  • Business Development – Build and expand client relationships, identify new opportunities, and represent the firm in pursuits, interviews, and industry events.
  • Proposal & RFP Response – Lead and contribute to Statements of Interest (SOIs), technical and price proposals, and responses to client RFIs and solicitations.
  • Mentorship & Development – Support the growth of junior and entry-level engineers, strengthening the group’s technical expertise and long‑term talent pipeline.
  • Industry Engagement – Actively participate in organizations such as ACEC, ASCE, AASHTO, and regional affiliates to elevate visibility and strengthen industry connections.
  • Client & Stakeholder Relations – Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, ensuring responsiveness, professionalism, and the delivery of innovative, high-quality solutions.
What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; MSCE a plus, with active Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience delivering highway design projects, with a strong background in DOT/SHA standards, specifications, and guidelines.
  • Hands‑on expertise in roadway modeling tools such as InRoads or Open Roads, and design software including Micro Station (preferred), AutoCAD, or Civil 3D, along with solid familiarity with AASHTO policies and guidelines.
