How You’ll Contribute

The Clinical Dietitian plans and delivers nutritional care to patients according to physicians’ diagnoses, performs as a member of the multidisciplinary care team, and screens newly admitted patients to identify those at nutritional risk.

Qualifications And Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in coursework approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) or a post‑Bachelor’s Certificate in Dietetics
  • State licensure/certification required if required by state
  • Registered Dietitian required
  • Previous experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Essential Functions
  • Assess patients’ nutritional status according to established standards and perform nutritional screening within required time frames
  • Obtain information from the medical record to determine patients’ nutritional status and develop nutritional care plans for patients in the rehabilitation setting
  • Ensure patients’ cultural, religious, and ethnic food preferences are honored, when possible, unless contraindicated
  • Store food and nutrition products under proper conditions of sanitation, temperature, light, moisture, ventilation, and security
  • Evaluate the results of nutritional intervention to determine the need to revise the nutritional care plan
  • Improve patients’ nutritional status by consulting with physicians on appropriate nutritional interventions
  • Assist in developing and implementing patient nutrition care programs and ensure consistency of programs; assist in developing and implementing patient nutritional menus
  • Interact professionally with patient/family and provide nutritional teaching and counseling to facilitate dietary changes
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces medical/healthcare errors
  • Provide food‑drug interrelationship information to physicians
  • Assist in orienting and servicing new employees to the department
  • Maintain good working relationships within and across departments
  • Document according to current standards and policies; record problems, goals, etc. on the Interdisciplinary Care Plan on admission, updating as appropriate
  • Conduct in‑service training for hospital staff and the community
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization and ability to function under stressful situations
