Overview
Senior Data Visualization Specialist at BDO USA. This client-facing role involves designing, building, and deploying data visualization solutions on platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, and others; aggregating data from SQL and cloud-based data platforms to convey new business insights. The role requires hands-on delivery management of data analytics projects, development and unit testing of solutions, and may include design of architecture and development of components where needed.
The position also owns consulting relationships across multiple clients and technologies.
- Designs and implements actionable data visualization solutions, semantic layers and models, and visualization of streaming data for end-to-end data analytics on cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.
- Explores large data sets and relational databases, performs analyses, and identifies storytelling opportunities.
- Creates effective presentations to communicate business value of solutions.
- Builds visualizations that simplify complex information to enable insights and informed decisions.
- Gathers and analyzes client needs to align solutions with data availability and business priorities.
- Delivers high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure deliverables with broad impact.
- Implements programs and best practices to improve data literacy and maturity within organizations.
- Creates written functional, architectural, and technical designs; develops prototypes to validate direction before scalable implementation.
- Participates in project status meetings and provides aggregated status updates for project and program managers.
- Supports SLA compliance and performs performance tuning and optimization of solutions.
- Implements branding standards, color palettes, and user experience standards; designs visually accessible assets.
- Adopts modern data visualization methodologies and maintains up-to-date knowledge of visualization strategies.
- Imports, transforms, and analyzes large data sets from disparate sources; builds data models and relationships; creates DAX measures where needed.
- Maps data models to source systems and documents data lineage and algorithms.
- Collaborates with data engineers on data ingestion and warehousing to support data models.
- Guides clients in licensing estimates based on user base and performance needs; manages work spaces, permissions, and security of visualization platforms.
- Designs and supports complex Row-Level Security (RLS) within visualization solutions.
- Assists project managers with work breakdown structures, project estimation, and resource planning; supports licensing, security, and cost estimation of solutions.
- Performs code reviews to ensure adherence to standards; works with clients and team members to establish secure visualization platforms and infrastructure.
- Contributes to successful deployments and Dev Ops integration; maintains broad knowledge of data visualization and analytics strategies.
- Builds client relationships during project execution and serves as a trusted advisor; participates in pre-sales engineering and scoping to assist with opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Supervises the day-to-day workload of Associates on assigned engagements to ensure timely delivery and quality of work.
- High School Diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred in Information Systems, Data Science, or Computer Science.
- 5+ years of experience in Data Analytics, BI, AI, or Application Development; 1+ year leading development projects; 1+ year consulting or cloud-based data visualization experience preferred.
- Strong SQL skills (DDL, DML, views, functions, stored procedures, tuning) required.
- Experience with visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Looker, etc.) required.
- Experience with Data Modeling and semantic modeling or star schema construction required.
- Hands-on delivery experience with visualization on Azure or AWS preferred;
Git and Dev Ops deployment tools preferred. - Familiarity with wire framing, Visio, AI/ML concepts, and automation tools (UiPath, Alteryx, etc.) preferred.
- Project management and client relationship management skills.
- Strong communication and organizational abilities; able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or in a team; professional demeanor with clients at all levels.
- Ability to mentor others and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Illinois Range: $90,000 - $115,000
