Stark Neurosciences Research Institute's (SNRI) mission is to bring together the scientific community in a dynamic, collaborative organization that advances discovery of neuroscience‑related disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies, as well as disseminates and applies this knowledge to prevent, treat and cure disease. SNRI's research is not only reflected across departments at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine, but at several universities and institutions.
Responsibilities
- Provides oversight for SNRI's research facilities, laboratory operations, and associated administrative functions
- Ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operations across multiple buildings and research spaces while focusing on institute‑wide initiatives, policy development, and continuous process improvement
- Oversees daily operations, safety, and security of SNRI research facilities
- Manages security systems, emergency preparedness, and response protocols in compliance with university, state, and federal regulations
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates the SNRI Operations Team, overseeing daily administrative and operational functions for research activities and building/lab management
- Manages facility access, develops and implements standard operating procedures, and supports space assignment and utilization
- Provides oversight and support for SNRI Core Services and shared core resources and facilities
- Ensures quality assurance, documentation, and compliance with institutional oversight
- Mentors and supports investigators and lab personnel on lab optimization, research compliance, and operational issues
- Manages building operations and maintenance such as maintenance planning, security/access control, and emergency response
- Coordinates fire and life safety, environmental safety procedures, and planning with university personnel and external agencies where required
- Performs periodic scheduled and ad hoc inspections to identify cleaning and property maintenance needs
- Participates in all aspects of project development, budget, implementation, and completion
- Prepares estimates for repairs and ensures building maintenance falls within allocated budget with an emphasis on cost‑containment
- Coordinates fulfillment of work orders for corrective action and routine maintenance; monitors progress, escalating especially complex matters as needed
- Monitors and maintains inventory levels and equipment/asset conditions through regular inspections and completion of required documentation
- Orders supplies/equipment when necessary
- Participates in and maintains an on‑call rotation to cover emergency situations
- May provide guidance to non‑exempt Licensed & Skilled Trades staff or lower‑level Facility Operations Specialists
- May make procedural and process recommendations to supervisor for improved operational efficiency
- Bachelor's degree in facilities management, project management, business operations, or related field
- 2 years in facilities management, project management, business operations, or related field
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism
- Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills
- Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
- Possesses flexibility to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
