This Role
The Associate Director, Environmental Health & Safety will provide direction, planning, and oversight of EH&S policies and programs to ensure compliance with applicable local laws and regulations and corporate standards within the Indianapolis manufacturing plant, distribution center, and engineering (R&D) building.
Key Responsibilities Provide overall EH&S leadership, mentoring, and direction to hourly and salaried management team members to ensure employee health, safety, and the environment are protected. Conduct and supervise activities to ensure compliance with government regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT) and corporate policies. This role will directly manage three EH&S Specialists.
Lead and build partnership at site across all levels of the organization to foster EHS culture improvement with strategic action plans.Work on cross-functional projects that interface with other groups, external to and within the core EHS team.Develop, implement, and measure success of EH&S programs, strategies, policies, training, and procedures in alignment with Corporate and Operations expectations.Continuously improve the EHS management system at the facility.Establish strategies and programs to proactively identify facility safety/health/environmental hazards inherent in the organization’s operations and develop plans to eliminate or control those hazards.Drive incident and near miss reporting. Perform root cause analysis of incidents and injuries to determine specific actions needed to prevent their reoccurrence, with inclusion of operations subject matter experts, business leadership, business and enterprise EH&S.Oversee workers’ compensation program administration including working with all parties to aggressively manage and support modified duty and return-to-work programs.Facilitate EHS training and orientation as needed. Identify EHS related training requirements for associates and support processes to ensure training effectiveness and compliance.Ensure all EHS related records are accurately maintained, organized, and in compliance with local, state, and national requirements or any other regulatory agency rules and regulations.Lead process of reviewing and approving safety data sheets, and new chemical request process.Organize and lead teams/committees to identify and implement EHS and sustainability improvements.Coach/mentor all employees, including leadership, on safe work practices, hazard identification, and risk management.Direct risk assessments and recommend control measures for all potential areas of concern.Analyze data to lead and coordinate the safety effort for continual improvement.Conduct EH&S audits; audit compliance to Carrier policies and procedures and regulatory requirements, evaluate effectiveness of EH&S programs.Generate and review all reports for State and Federal environmental (EPA) and safety (OSHA) agencies.Provide pandemic/emergency response protocol management support for unforeseen events.Manage partnership with onsite medical team to ensure resources are available to conduct new hire assessments, provide daily medical support, etc.Establish and communicate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines and manage vendor relationships.Determine and implement environmental sustainability initiatives to minimize water use, greenhouse gas generation, hazardous waste generation, and increase recycling rate.Required Qualifications
