PCU RN Job Details
  • Location: Indianapolis, IN 46202 (Indiana healthcare jobs)
  • Unit: Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU) – near ICU-level acuity
  • Contract Type: Travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: January 5, 2026
  • End Date: April 6, 2026
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (19:00 - 07:30)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required; may include consecutive weekends
  • Orientation: 48 hours
  • Staffing Ratios: 1:3-4
  • Floating: Float to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU units within University and Methodist Hospitals
Registered Nurse Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 months of recent PCU or ICU nursing experience
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Indiana RN license required prior to start)
  • Certifications:

    ACLS and BCLS (American Heart Association)
  • Clinical skills: cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, feeding tube care, post-op care, epidural management, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, titration of insulin drips, BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, Doppler flap checks
  • Ability to float to various levels of care as needed
  • Willingness to precept and mentor students during assignment
  • Preferred: previous charge nurse experience, trauma level I experience, Cerner charting system proficiency
PCU RN Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult patients in a surgical PCU setting (ENT, thoracic, general surgery, urology, medical overflow)
  • Monitor and manage patients with complex post-operative and high acuity conditions
  • Perform specialized procedures: arterial and central line care, tracheostomy/laryngectomy care, chest tube and surgical drain management, enteral feedings
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory, radiology, pharmacy, social services)
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in patient rounds and rapid response
  • Float to other hospital units as required (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU)
  • Mentor students and new staff members
  • Comply with hospital policies regarding call-ins, weekend coverage, and contract fulfillment
