Overview

Registered Veterinary Technician for City Way Animal Clinics – Irvington – a locally owned group of four small animal practices located in the heart of Indianapolis. The position is full‑time with a 4‑day workweek.

Schedule
  • Full‑time, 4‑day workweek
  • Monday‑Friday, 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Every other Saturday, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care under the supervision of a veterinarian (DVM).
  • Maintain clear and accurate medical, client, and case records using appropriate terminology and grammar.
  • Review medical records, treatment estimates, and discharge instructions with clients, answer basic animal‑care questions, and elevate medical inquiries to veterinarians as needed.
  • Guide and support medical support staff to ensure efficient shift operations and workflow.
  • Mentor team members to promote career growth and personal development.
  • Provide input for 360‑degree performance evaluations of employees.
  • Assist with client services including appointment scheduling, payments, check‑in, and courteous phone communication.
  • Provide feedback and suggest improvements to training programs; participate in training sessions, job shadows, and working interviews.
  • Perform assigned cleaning, clinic upkeep, and equipment maintenance tasks.
  • Delegate cleaning or other duties during slow periods when a supervisor is unavailable.
  • Identify and address areas needing additional attention within the clinic environment.
  • Answer client inquiries confidently about routine procedures and animal care.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients to support patient care and hospital operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the nature and level of work.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an AVMA‑accredited Veterinary Technician program.
  • Current state veterinary technician license in good standing.
  • One year of experience in the veterinary industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in laboratory procedures, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental care, and nursing.
  • Ability to administer subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injections.
  • Knowledge of commonly used veterinary medications, including dosage, side effects, and client communication.
  • Understanding of anesthesia and patient recovery monitoring, with the ability to recognize and report changes in patient status.
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient in stressful or fast‑paced environments, including medical emergencies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfort and confidence in handling animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds independently, and over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Capacity to sit, stand, and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in noisy environments with sounds from animals and medical equipment.
  • Routine exposure to animals that may bite or scratch.
  • Occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications/controlled substances.
  • Adequate hearing to understand verbal instructions and client communication.
  • Vision capabilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate medical equipment and computer systems.
