Job Summary
We are hiring a Shop Diesel Technician II to support future growth of the Company. The Shop Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician will work under the supervision of a Sr. Shop Diesel Technician or higher, and will continue to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
A successful candidate will comply with all company policies and achieve high level performance metrics.
Duties
- Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Determine parts required for each job and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in cleanup at the end of each day.
- Apply knowledge gained through training or on‑the‑job experience to perform one’s job, understand, evaluate and use technical information.
- Work with the Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment.
- Occasionally travel to perform work at customer locations.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work in accordance with company standards; upload pictures and record all findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company issued device or Karmak application.
- Complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Communicate with the Shop Manager and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA and DOT.
- Complete all in‑company required safety training.
- Maintain assigned service trucks; conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, alternators, starters, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gasoline and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust and repair truck equipment using sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
- Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Assist Shop Diesel Technician I with diagnostics.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (alternative combinations of degree or qualification beyond HS and/or 5 years’ experience accepted).
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Participate in and complete all in‑company required training.
