The Building Trades Instructor is responsible for teaching and training students in construction-related skills, including carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance. The instructor will prepare students for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, or advanced technical training in the construction industry. This role combines classroom instruction with hands-on shop and field experiences to ensure students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Key Responsibilities- Instruction & Curriculum
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons in building trades aligned with state and industry standards.
- Provide hands‑on training in carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and safety practices.
- Integrate employability skills, problem‑solving, and teamwork into instruction.
- Student Development
- Assess student progress through assignments, projects, and performance evaluations.
- Guide students in developing technical proficiency, workplace readiness, and professional ethics.
- Support students in preparing for certifications, apprenticeships, or direct workforce entry.
- Program Management
- Maintain a safe, organized, and well‑equipped shop/lab environment.
- Collaborate with industry partners to ensure curriculum reflects current practices.
- Participate in advisory committees, professional development, and school‑wide initiatives.
- Compliance & Safety
- Enforce OSHA and school safety standards in all instructional activities.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and program outcomes.
- Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; postsecondary training or journeyman status preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in building trades (construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or related field).
- Prior teaching or training experience preferred but not required.
- Licensure/Certification
- Must hold or be eligible for appropriate state teaching certification/licensure in Building Trades.

- Combination of classroom, shop, and field settings.
- Requires standing, lifting, and operating tools/equipment.
