The Clinical RN Manager is responsible for the day-to-day shift operations in the Surgery Department. He/she manages human resources at the unit level in a cost-effective manner and resolves patient, visitor, staff, and physician complaints. The role requires leadership during crisis and emergency situations and responsibility for helping employees understand difficult administrative decisions. Responsibilities- Manage day-to-day shift operations in the Surgery Department and unit-level human resources.
- Investigate and resolve complaints from patients, visitors, staff, and physicians; advise management accordingly.
- Respond to changing workload during crisis and emergency situations; provide direction as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate with surgical services team and physicians; act as a clinical resource for staff.
- Develop and publish department master staff schedules; assist with clinical assignments based on need and skill level.
- Monitor department activities to ensure efficient operations; analyze performance and address potential problems.
- Coordinate orientation for new employees and department-specific training; ensure mandatory continuing education requirements are met.
- Complete performance evaluations for designated staff; participate in capital budget input and cost management.
- Participate in management meetings and initiatives; support hospital-wide performance improvement programs.
- Ensure physical facilities are maintained (environmental controls, equipment, implants, supplies).
- Facilitate staff interviews, selection, and ongoing staff development.
- Monitor vendor support in Perioperative Services and manage capital budget inputs; maintain PAR levels and monitor costs.
- Provide regular reports to the Surgery Committee on metrics such as turnaround time and schedule adherence.
- Required
- Current California RN License
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (maintain current)
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience; demonstrated leadership and professional presentation
- Preferred
- Current American Heart Association ACLS and PALS
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
- Previous management experience
- TNCC/ENPC Certification

Salary: $65.32 - $104.52 hourly; individual wages determined by qualifications and experience.

- Operationally and fiscally manage the department during duty hours
- Ensure facilities, temperature, humidity, air circulation, vacuum, and gas systems are maintained
- Facilitate staff interviews and assist in evaluation of staff performance
- Coordinate with vendors; monitor implants, equipment, and supplies; manage surgeon satisfaction
- Ensure availability of personnel, equipment, implants, and supplies
- Interface department quality improvement with hospital-wide program
- Collect data for priority issues and monitor department performance
- Provide reports to the Surgery Committee on metrics
