Purpose:

To provide sound educational programs for children who cannot sufficiently benefit from regular classroom instruction as a result of disability, as defined by special education criteria.

• Performs casework service with individual students to support those academic, personal, social and/or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
• Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s academic and/or social-emotional needs, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
• Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s academic and/or behavioral supports.
• Supervises and/or facilitates the referral of students.
• Conduct evaluations for students in referral to determine eligibility for services through IEPs or Section 504 Plans.
• Serves as a liaison between home and school when follow-up is necessary.
• Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies when appropriate.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attends staff meetings (as appropriate).
• Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
• Performs other tasks (as appropriate).
