Mechanical Engineer
Location: Inglewood, CA 90302
Duration: Permanent / Full Time
Pay Range: $120K - $140K
NOTE - Candidate need to be local to the area (No relocation expenses paid for this role).
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. All applicants must be "U.S. persons" within the meaning of ITAR, as defined: a U.S. Citizen, a lawful permanent resident, political asylee, or refugee.
Summary
Supports the development and documentation of mechanical systems, including system design, proposals, and high-level requirements. Performs detailed design development and modification of mechanical system installations. Supports spatial integration at the system or component level and prepares technical documentation for mechanical components and systems.
This role requires a strong background in aerospace manufacturing, design, and analysis with emphasis on pneumatic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components and assemblies for military or commercial aviation. Extensive experience with mechanisms such as linkages, levers, pneumatic devices, solenoids, and motor operators is required. Knowledge of airborne weapon systems and/or weapon carriage equipment is strongly preferred. Works under limited supervision.
Daily Responsibilities
- Lead research into technical, operational, and quality issues not resolved by customers
- Assess and resolve product and process issues across the product lifecycle
- Direct cross-functional teams in root cause analysis and disposition of complex design non-conformances
- Perform detailed design work, assembly layouts, and creation of drawings and solid models in CATIA
- Oversee documentation of hardware-related issues
- Support development, maintenance, and modification of system, component, and installation designs
- Perform and document analyses to validate and verify system and component requirements
- Provide ongoing technical support to production operations
- Design and review layouts, calculate component stack-ups, and prepare supporting documentation
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards
- Write technical reports and support design reviews (conceptual, preliminary, and detailed)
- Support proposal preparation and new business development
- Lead validation and verification of mechanical and system requirements
- Train, coach, and mentor team members
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant design, analysis, or development experience (military or commercial aviation preferred)
- Strong knowledge of aerospace manufacturing methods and fabrication processes
- Experience with design concepts such as concurrent engineering and DFM/DFA
- Ability to perform structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element methods
- Knowledge of aerospace materials, heat treatment, and coatings
- Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA preferred); PDM Smart Team a plus
- Expertise in ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5 standards (GD&T and stack‑up analysis)
- Experience with electromechanical systems and large structures
- Familiarity with AS9100 and ITAR requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English
- Ability to write engineering and test reports
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- 3D printing experience (PLA, composite, and/or metal) a plus
- Ability to perform basic measurement and inspection processes
- Proof of education required
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
