Lead marine governance efforts as a Marine Coordinator, based in Inuvik, focused on enhancing safety and protecting Gwich’in interests in Arctic waters. This full-time role is dedicated to Indigenous participation and environmental initiatives.
Reporting to the Director of Lands and Resources, the Marine Coordinator will spearhead the Gwich’in Marine Program, engaging communities and strengthening their voice in navigation and policy matters. Your work will involve collaboration with local councils and organizations to advocate for traditional knowledge and safety measures.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and lead community consultations on marine issues
• Document local Traditional Knowledge for marine initiatives
• Share culturally relevant marine policy insights
• Build partnerships to improve Gwich’in governance
• Organize marine training for safety and awareness
Requirements:
• Educational background in marine or environmental studies
• 3–5 years in relevant governance context
• Familiarity with Gwich’in rights and land claims
• Consultation experience in Indigenous contexts
• Class 5 Driver’s License and travel readiness
Engage in meaningful marine initiatives and support Gwich’in communities as a Marine Coordinator.
